{happy 4th} we met online

{Bartons & Powells post-Round Top (pardon our looks, we were a little worn out)}

{The men cleaning & reloading the loot, as we watched from inside the house.}

Remember our adventure to Texas from earlier this year (if not you can recap here, and here)?  Where we got in a camper trailer with the Bartons (Courtney blogs at In(side) The Loop) who we had never met in person and went antiquing and stayed in an RV Park? Well, I'm not sure if I ever took the time to tell y'all how much fun we had... it was an adventure, an absolute blast, and we love the Bartons, and plan for many more adventures together!

Courtney & JJ are flying in today to spend the 4th of July with us!  We couldn't be more excited! You know the internet isn't just for child predators and freaks anymore... Court and I found each other in the blogosphere and I am so thankful that she's just as great in person as she is on her blog!  I wish you all could meet her!

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July!  We plan on some serious relaxation and fun in the sun!

little baby boy...

I know he looks a little cross-eyed in that last picture, but the precious angel opened his eyes for the first time for his Mommasissy (that's what my nieces call me and another word for "aunt"). My nephew John (no middle name) was born Monday at 1:40 pm and weighed 7 lbs, 10 ounces. He was 20.5 inches long and is the cutest thing I've ever seen.

I really don't know how all these people I know came into the world.  I mean childbirth is SERIOUS.  I thought I was leery before I went to the hospital on Monday, well let me tell you... sitting in a hospital room with my sister (day after a c-section) and listening to her and her sister-in-law share horror stories of c-sections and other frightening birthing-things makes me a little worried about the birthing process.  Children are a precious blessing of the Lord, I'm well aware... but how they come out of a woman's body is seriously frightening and mind-boggling to me.

So, to all those moms out there who have pushed or had babies cut out of their bellies... my hat is off to you! You are AMAZING!

And to my amazing sister, laying in a hospital bed in South Alabama... I LOVE YOU!  Rock on with your mad child-rearing and birthing skills.  Your kids are so stinkin' cute and sweet I fear having any of my own.

You set the bar high.  I love you!

Kiss that little man for me!!

I'm packin' up and leavin' town!

My precious sister is bringing another beautiful child into the world... it is a boy this time, and hopefully he'll have a name by Monday.

She's having a c-section at noon on Monday, if you care to pray for her, I know she'd appreciate it.

Here's a picture of us from the last time she birthed a child:

Love you!  Can't wait to meet "brother"!

back in black : biblio' beauty

I'm pretty sure I'd like to have this.  Convincing my husband that it's a good use of $14,500 is another story.

matchmaker international

When I saw this image over at SF Girl By Bay:

Gray_headboard SFG

I was kinda' sorta thinkin' that little man might be a good match for this little girl:

Page%2B4

Maybe it's the common thread tufted goodness that's appealing to both?

I don't know.

I did set these two up and they got married:

If you need me to set you up, holla'.

working with dogs

Apparently June 20th was 'take your dog to work day'.

Well, everyday here is "take your dog to work day"... so here are a few pictures of my dogs "workin' it"... I found them today, under the conference table, having this conversation over some fabric samples they were considering for a friend's dog house:

IMG_0508

Paisley (L): "I like this embroidered silk floral, what do you think Penelope?"

Penelope (R): "I think that's over-budget for this woman- you know she cain't afford that, we need to find a print!"

Paisley (pinned down): "Okay! Cheap-dog, we'll go for the print!"

exposing myself {yikes}

Let's get back to reality!

This is the floor of my closet: hardcore reality

IMG_0195

A friend once asked me, "does your husband know he's married to a centipede?"... it took me a minute,  but she was referring to the line of shoes by our back door.

Disaster, yes.

I'm sort of embarrassed to show you the rest... but I will.

This is my other closet- I have two that are the same size. My husband uses the guest room closet.

IMG_0201

I have plastic-coated wire {icky} shelving, which I am not changing (I can live with it).

I am cleaning out!

Exposing myself here with these people I don' t know.

I actually started this process weeks ago, but came to a screeching halt when I had gone out for the 3rd time to buy more  hangers... how could I possibly need more hangers?

 IMG_0200

I should have made my bed before taking this picture, but in my defense- I was out of town the night before I started "operation organization" and so this is how my husband had left our bed.

My sister talked me into splurging on these hangers, I found similar ones at Ross... where they have all sorts of inexpensive storage and organizational things.

Some progress shots:

IMG_0209

Paisley was worried I might get rid of her. I would NEVER.

Made big pile for Goodwill & bigger pile for Mint(a consignment boutique owned by a friends' sister... it's in Starkville, Mississippi, which is not near me - but worth shipping stuff too).  If you have decent clothes and tire of them quickly, ship them to Mint, then just wait til the checks start rolling in every month - it's so fun and also "validates" more shopping.

I'm hoping my after pictures look like this:

Domino closet 1

Domino closet 2

Pictures from here.

Wait, that would require us buying a new house, or converting a guest room.  I think I'll just use these for inspiration... however unattainable they might be.

Or I'd take any of these.

More on this subject later... hopefully when it's complete. Now erase those last two images from your memory, it'll look nothing like that.

I'm admiring without the need to acquire... a great lesson!

LA Recap {part 2}

Alright so, part 2.

This part of the story involves the very unfamiliar territory of "Daytime TV Stars".  You know what I am doing during the day... and it does not involve watching any tv. None, zilch. I mean, maybe if a hurricane is coming I have on Weather Channel, I could recognize Jim Cantore at Wal-Mart... but other than that... no.

We leave the pool and get ready for the event.  I took all 3 dresses that I had raced out to buy on Wednesday evening, and told dad to pick his favorite.

IMG_0406

Coral with bow-thing wins.

I tried to do my own hair.

A classic low bun.

It looked like a turd, so I took it out.

I tried to get dad to help with my hair, mind you I had no bobby-pins, and a 1 ounce (airport safe) bottle of Pantene squirt hairspray... a recipe for disaster. Dad wouldn't even attempt to help, it's okay, he might have caused more problems.

I wore my hair in a ponytail to the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Elastic exposed. I was on the verge of a panic attack and it had to "work".

The car comes to pick us up at hotel, drives us to Kodak Theater, pulls right up at the front of the red carpet.  Men in red jackets open the door and we look at each other.

I tell myself "be still little heart", "be cool", "don't be a total star-struck cheeseball", "smile", "stand up straight", "don't trip in your shoes that are already killing your feet"... and out of the car I step. IMG_0418

I'm sure at this point I said "this is insane". It had been safe seconds earlier to take pictures inside the car (no one could see) so I had done so and this was the scene...

IMG_0414Once on the red carpet it became blatantly obvious that people on the red carpet were not taking pictures, they were having their picture taken.

So, I play by the rules. I tuck my camera in my little bag.

Really wishing I could have taken loads of pictures.

We laughed a lot.

At the point where the red carpet meets the steps to go up to the Kodak Theater I decided... it's okay to take a picture. So we stopped.  And had our picture made:

IMG_0419 It was about 100 degrees. Bright & sunny.

So up the stairs... hundreds of them.

Top of the stairs: security. My sexy uncomfortable shoes set off the alarm. Cute.

We get inside the theater.

There are famous people everywhere, I don't see famous people all that often where I come from.

{I did meet Chris Hansen a few weeks ago, you know To Catch a Predator

We find our table, wine and appetizers... delightful people from dad's office.

IMG_0439 Before the show starts, I (mother taught me well) run to the restroom.

Glass tile (Oceanside's "Beach Blonde" I believe) everywhere.  Beautiful bathroom.

I'm washing my hands, and guess who walks in?

Ellen Degeneres.

Ellen with emmy

Guess what? She speaks to me. She says "we're the only smart ones going before the show!"

For the first time in my life, I did not know what to say.  I did not say a word.

So, I wash my hands again and am scolding myself: why didn't you reply, washing my hands, washing my hands, OCD hand-washer, am I seriously waiting for her to finish going to the bathroom?

I'm not that crazy, I didn't want to be 'that girl'. (I saved that for later in the evening.)

So I leave and go back to my seat.

The Awards ceremony didn't last long, this surprised me.

After the show we went to the Style Lounge, where some of the show was shot.

IMG_0423c

This is the part of the evening where "common folk" are forced to interact with "famous folk".

I bet none of you have a picture with Susan Lucci where you are making a horse face:

Susan

She made me laugh (she was as nice as she is pretty) and with dad behind the camera, this is how it turned out.*

Cute, right?

I think not.

She's tiny.

So, then in comes Aiden Turner.

Aiden%20Turner-1

Easy on the eyes, right?

British accent, even better.

He somehow managed to get gum all over himself. So, what's a nice girl do, but help him get that gum off.

He leaves. Someone random approaches me.

"Excuse me, are you Aiden's wife?"

Hilarious. "No, I'm Chance's wife." - she probably wondered who "Chance" was.

We take some pictures by the stage.

IMG_0429

Then we go to the after party.

(Regis is a cute man, small and mighty, so talented.)

(Barbara Walters didn't look as old as I thought she would.)

(Ellen looks like she does on tv.)

Okay, after party. This is where "human-nature" and "playing it cool" didn't mix well.

We walk up to the ABC party with our tickets.

Dad is handing over tickets and I look up.

Who is that looking at me?

Bob

Bob Guiney, you know "Bachelor Bob".

For all you Bachelor lovers, I spoke on our behalf.

I said "Well, hello Bob Guiney!" (as if we were old pals, then I realized he was trying to figure out how he knew me... dear goodness, why did I say something?) so I proceed to say... "I just looooooovvvved you on the Bachelor!".

Like a star-struck teeny-bopper.

I could not believe my own ears.

He said "well thank you!" and shook my hand.

And then I ducked inside the party and filled my dad in on who "Bob Guiney" is.

I also managed to borrow someone's Emmy (I'm 100% certain this is was a faux pas, but you know - it might be my one and only awards show), and the awardee was so kind and generous, he even took our picture with his Emmy:

Emmy

Did I mention the dessert:

IMG_0451

I am going to have to retire this coral dress.  I'll post this one in black & white.  This was a good shot inside the theater.

Inside-theater

And then we left on Saturday morning about 7am... and that was...

IMG_0474

The End.

Thanks for the trip of a lifetime dad! I'm ready for the next adventure!!!

*-Dad's gonna wonder why I didn't post the picture of him with Susan Lucci, I didn't post it because it was sooo much better than mine... and he wouldn't retake mine - he claimed it was "classic".

easily-bored-random woman at hotel pool

Okay, so I will get to LA Part 2, but I have to tell you what I heard sitting by the hotel pool on Friday.

One of the afore mentioned models in gold heels said the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

She announced to everyone at the pool (read in British accent):

"Do not go to Bora Bora!  We just came from there, went for 6 days before we got here to LA, and all I can say is Bora Bora is Boring Boring!"

Bora-bora-island-tahiti-french-polynesia

My brain instantly started flashing photos to me. I kept thinking "Bora Bora, blue water, little huts, right?"

Bora-Bora

Does this look boring to you? I'd like to be in that hammock right now. 2703576300037992023wUFqoM_fs

I know why she was bored, she probably couldn't get any cell signal to her Side-Kick.

I read a delightful book in my journey.  I don't recommend books, because everyone has different literary tastes, but I will tell you I really enjoyed it.

Ann Brashares The Last Summer (of You & Me)

I found Ann Brashares blog on Amazon and this part delighted me:

My main hobbies are running and eating, which sort of cancel each other out. I don't have a TV and I don't have a drivers license. That makes me kind of odd, I know. And very unsuccessful in carpools and pop culture trivia quizzes. I do have a movie projector.

She lives in New York City, so the bit about the drivers license is not that unusual... but no TV?

Could you live without television?  Just when I think I could I find a show I really enjoy. You?
