window sills continued
Sorry I've been MIA, we lost a precious grandmother on Saturday morning and we have been spending time with family and reminiscing - celebrating her life! The Daffodil is from her yard... and SOOOO reminds me of her.
Oh, the window sills! Feast your eyes!
If that doesn't make you smile... I don't know what will! The old sink with double washboards is fantastic! Lori from Connecticut emailed me this photo... here's the email that came with it:
Hi Erika,
Here is my photo of the window at my sink. I find myself at the kitchen sink many times throughout the day as it has a southern exposure and I need the sun shining on me during the winter. I am afraid my neighbors probably think I am a nosey neighbor...haha. My window sill is not deep enough to put a pot on so my honey made me a shelf. The brackets he found at a tag sale and I kept them just the way he got them, a little shabby. If you can see my sink in the photo, it is original to the house. It is a large deep sink with a double washboard. I absolutely love it. When we redoing the kitchen my honey said he would get me a new sink and I yelled...No! I love my old sink. The curtains I made from a tablecloth that was on sale for $2 at Marshalls. I tried to take a full on photo, but with the sun shining in (and me not knowing much about photo taking in a sunny window) the photo was washed out, so I took the photo from the side. Here is a link to my blog but I am sure no one would be interested in family stuff, but there are entries for my decorating in my dining room and living room. Oh and if you want to cheer yourself up you can check out the albums page for the Beach Walks, Patio Construction and Flowers 2007.

Then I found this from Carolina Eclectic:
Beautiful! The email that came with the photo (little does she know I read and love her blog! I've added her to my left column of daily reads):
My name is Carolina Saunders. I saw your post about kitchen window sills. I posted a couple of pictures
about mine some time ago. Who would have thought that Flikr had a group dedicated to pictures of what is on peoples sill. Anyway, I am attaching the picture I posted. I have two small figurines made from zinc (I think). I call them Las Chiquitas, which means the little ones. I get a lot of enjoyment out of looking at them, I don't know why. My blog is called Carolina Eclectic, but I have another blog dedicated to my random thoughts.

Thanks, Carolina
Then there is my squirrelly sister:
My sister's window sill... before her family came down with the flu.
And of course... the after, a photo she took this morning. She is hilarious.
I'll post more photos tomorrow...

I want to eat those tomatoes & cucumbers... MMMM! All I need is a little feta cheese and I'd have a full course meal with that first window sill!

when my father died someone sent me a card and it has stuck with me ever since. it will be 5 years this christmas. i cant find the card right now, but i came across one i bought a while ago for a friend. it is almost the same. i would send it to you if i could, but here it is...
"I have this feeling
there's one more star
up in the sky tonight.
And even though it's far away,
its brightness and warmth
still reach us here
to make the night
a little less dark."
My thoughts and prayers are with you. It is never easy losing someone you love.

You should do more of these interactive posts! I love peeking in on the same aspect of many different homes. Alas I don't have a kitchen window sill. The sink faces a wall and the two kitchen windows are on opposite walls. I'll have to wait til next time for my time to shine!

The daffodil photo provides a desperately desired whisper of spring here in Chicago, where the windchill is negative-something degrees and we won't see flowers until April. What a sweet, bright flower to remind you of your grandmother.
I am reluctant to ask an OT question, but several weeks ago you posted information on antiquing glass or mirrors; foolishly, I didn't save it to my delicious account. Although I've searched your archives, I can't find that particular post. Do you happen to remember what it was?

So sorry about your grandmother.
The tomato windowsill did make me smile. It's as though someone managed to capture summer, kidnap it and not let it out.

Hi Erika
I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope you and your family are doing well.
Thanks for posting my little picture and for adding me to your blog links. I'm so glad to know you've been reading my blog, and that we have a mutual friend in Courtney. I am going to add you to my blog links too, and I will check in more often.
