This morning I poured curdled milk into my coffee.
The fridge is still broken... and I guess the "dorm room fridge" that we are using in the interim is not cutting it.
I thought my coffee tasted weird yesterday, it must have been the curdled milk.
Are you gagging? I was.
I drank my coffee black this morning.
I hung the matches on Sunday night. It was nothing short of a nightmare.
I made a template, which eased the pain. My husband must really love me... he was the one who put all the anchors and screws in the wall. Sorry about the light glare, I took these this morning... the light pours into this room at 7am.
In case there are inquiring minds: the walls are Sherwin Williams "Hardware" SW6172; the sofa was at a local furniture clearance store original tag said $3,600, I paid $400; the roman shades are Babara Barry for Kravet; the lamp is old; the match books were courtesy of a flea market; frames from Target; mats from Hobby Lobby.
beyond cool, erika. just loving the display!

First, I know how Chance feels about curdled milk, so he's probably having convulsions reading this post.
Second, and most importantly, THOSE FRAMES!!! Holy smokes, I never realized how many you had until now. I mean, I know it was a whole book full, but this makes such a statement. I love it. And they look great over the sofa. Great job, E!

Is mercury in retrograde or what... so funny about the milk....gag.
We had a frig on the fritz for nearly a month and I thought that was worse than having no air conditioning during the hottest summer, barefoot and pregnant. pretty picture I just painted for you...
those framed math-books really light up that room.

Love the look of the matches!! I did something similar in my hallway with black and white photos....I only had 9 frames to hang and I thought that was a pain....you had 15...gosh!

I've been waiting to see what you ended up doing with those matches? I'm so not disappointed they look great! Hanging all of those frames might have caused the Great Fight of 08 if it was my husband, usually hanging is all me.

OH my that looks great! I love that sofa, I need it in my little den. You're so talented.

LOVE it! That there is A LOT of frames, girl! But, boy, does it look great!!
Curdled milk....Ack!!
Posted by: Linda @ Lime in the Coconut | August 20, 2008 at 10:24 AM
it took us forever to hang two frames, I can only imagine what you went through for this, haha! but they look GREAT! very cool.
and ICK about the milk. I am so paranoid about that. I smell my milk EVERY morning before I pour it, even if I just bought it.
Posted by: Jennifer | August 20, 2008 at 10:28 AM
It looks WONDERFUL!! What a lovely and inspiring project!
So, so, so sorry about the milk. That's just wrong.

E it looks great! I was wondering what you were going to do with those. I am very impressed. Great job, as always.
Sorry about your milk-hope the fridge is back to normal soon!
Posted by: Lindsey | August 20, 2008 at 10:44 AM
a) ew on the milk!
b) kudos on the framed matchbooks over the sofa (and the deep wall color) - very chic, yet cozy and personal - nice job!
Posted by: Bettye | August 20, 2008 at 10:48 AM
curdled milk? that's disgusting. I've always been afraid of that happening to me. The framed match books look SO good - I love all the colors and how it looks with the striped sofa. I can't believe you bought it for $400... I only wish I could see the individual match books better in the pictures! I'm sure they're fun to look at :)
Posted by: Jessica | August 20, 2008 at 10:58 AM
I can't wait to see this in Domino!
Posted by: Seleta | August 20, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Looks great, EZ! Did you frame those yourself?!
Posted by: Elizabeth Sloan | August 20, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Erika, I love it! Very chic...did you leave the match books in tact (for a 3D effect) or did you cut off the book part so that it would lay flat? I am very intrigued...awesome job!
Posted by: Weatherly | August 20, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Ohh curdled milk - not good. But at least you have some great wall art!

You did it! Way to go they look awesome, Mr. Burns would be proud!
As for the milk, happend to me once at my favorite coffee stop...it dissrupted my morning routine for a week, I could not get the thought out of my head...yuck!
Posted by: Shannon | August 20, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Alright Erika, let's get serious. You need to do a book. Why hasn't some publisher grabbed you?! Wonderful rooms, great talent....so young and fresh!

Your matches art turned out stunning! I LOVE it!!

Curdled milk - poor you! Every time I hear the word curdled I think of Curdled, the little known, brilliantly dark comedy filmed in the late 90s. Try watching that for an unforgettable time. Lovely job on the framing, and I love that beautiful wall color.
Posted by: alceaalba | August 20, 2008 at 05:05 PM
Ghah! nothing makes me gag more than the thought of curdled milk. The beautiful wall and frames do not belong together with CURDLED MILK.
Posted by: corine | August 20, 2008 at 08:53 PM
So is that a black core on the mats or a black filet you used to offset the background paper?
Looks great! I still haven't decided on what to do for my sketches and now have a 30x40 of my favorite neighborhood tree to contemplate as well.

I was so traumatized by your post I had second thoughts about my own 3 day old milk and ran out this evening for a fresh half gallon!
Posted by: Annie Empiric | August 21, 2008 at 01:43 AM
Your wall of frames looks fantastic. A really great way to display such small items.
I am about to have a cup of tea and will smell the milk after reading your story...
Posted by: Clare | August 21, 2008 at 07:06 AM
Stunning!! I really can't imagine hanging all those frames though. It took Barry and I HOURS to hang 4 large photos - WITH a paper template, level, et al. We moved several nails, several times, and they are STILL off. That is an art form itself.
p.s. LOVE the title page in the center - genius. Wasn't sure what you were going to do with that 'not like the other" one!
Posted by: Annmarie | August 21, 2008 at 07:09 AM
So glad to see you chose to frame them yourself!
Posted by: Stephanie | August 21, 2008 at 08:06 AM
WOW! I just LOVE it, girl! Did they have another good looking sofa for 400 Bucks??? I need one just like it!......You are so talented, Erika. Thanks for sharing .....Keep em coming!

I can't imagine anything worse than the coffee incident. Coffee is a very important part of my morning.
I am so excited about the matchbooks! Giddy. My heart sunk a bit after the custom framing estimate. They look amazing - especially against the brilliant wall color - and one would never know they are Target. Not that there is anything wrong with Target.
Well done - they look fantastic.
Posted by: Mrs. Blandings | August 21, 2008 at 10:04 AM
I love the "WOW" factor the matches framed give to the room. They really pop very nicely!!! I love, love, love it!
Are these just the match book covers (no matches)?
Posted by: Joyce | August 21, 2008 at 10:34 AM
okay, so i know i haven't been to your house in aaaaboooout... a hundred years, but i cannot get my bearings... what room is this?? wait - is it your old office?!
Posted by: arre | August 21, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Erika -- so sorry it's taken me a while to compliment you on this. It's just great. A big success. Kudos!

Hello, I just stumbles onto your page since I am interested in framing some matchbooks for a Christmas present for my boyfriend. Did you do this your self or have someone do it? Also, these are just the matchbook covers correct? Looks great!
Posted by: kelly | November 02, 2009 at 10:54 AM
Hi. Yes, I did frame them myself. Frames from Target - Mats from Hobby Lobby. Yes, just the matchbook covers.
Good luck!!

When did humans start drinking cows milk, or any other type of
non-human milk? Did they feed it to just infants first, or humans of
all ages? Is it possible to know why they started?
