When I was home (what feels like months ago) I saw this house.
Isn't that a sad sight? (you might have to enlarge the photos for the full affect)
What happened along the way?
Someone mows the grass... who? The realtor?
It's up for auction.
I wonder who will get it?
And will they love her as much as the original owner who had her designed and built?
Somehow this beauty got ignored by someone.
If I lived there I'd love her and care for her.
Don't you wonder when you see houses like this... what went wrong there?
What an amazing house!!!!

That house is beautiful. A lot of TLC and she could be a showplace. Are you in the market? :)

THIS house reminds me of the Banks' home in "Father of the Bride". What a beauty to have been so neglected. Maybe someone will buy it soon and give this elegant lady the TLC that she deserves!.....Hope so!

I want to move in asap, and fix that baby up. At first glance it reminds me of the house in the "Notebook".

There is a house like that where I live. The parents died and the kids have been fighting for 10 years over what to do with the house. In the meantime, the house sits, with the garage doors open, and the yard mowed occasionally. We would love to buy it, but the family won't sell it. So sad.

those shutters with missing slats?!!!! I get so sad when I see houses that are totally neglected. A little love goes a long, long way. There are lots of houses in my neighborhood like this since most homes were built in the 20s.

My daughter and I were just wending our way through a lovely area of Pasadena, Ca. after she arrived from Seattle today. We were playing our favorite game of:
"This needs just a bit of paint" or landscaping, detailing, construction, etc. I always wonder why....and even make up the stories about divorce, money woes, death, widowed dowager on fixed income, etc. Very timely post, thank you....Ginny

What a beautiful home...It'll be back to snuff in no time. Might go for a song at the auction!
It makes me sad to think of the stories that could be why it was neglected...maybe a loving elderly couple had it and one of them passed away...and the other just couldn't keep it going. Maybe a family that that lost there job...
ok, I'll stop.

That's really too bad- I think this house could be outstanding. I grew up in a house almost exactly like this (a kept up version)...so sad!

This is a beautiful house! It is for sure a diamond in the raw. I know what you mean about the loss of beauty. There is a story I'm sure waiting to be told if the walls could talk.
The good thing is you will see the progress when you go home for visits.
Too bad it wasn't in the Chicago area.

E - I'm still devouring your every post! Houses like this make me so sad...I'm always dreaming of what could be... what I'd do, replace this, scrape that, etc. I hope you'll take more pics next time you're home... assuming it's being restored.

I'd love to be the high bidder on this little gem! I don't know if Derick would be up for it though...we'd probably be reinacting scenes from The Money Pit.

Lots of blog love to the house, and lets hope it soon get new owners!! Such a shame leaving that gorgeous house in such a state.... I'm finding myself get rather emotional on this subject...I'm just such a weeper when it comes to abandoned houses (...and dogs ;-))

I am so intrigued by houses like this. I wish I could find out all about their history. It's absolutely beautiful and has SO much potential!

I used to drive along the Mississippi river and take pictures of abandoned homes - many of them old plantations. There would just be a brick wall or two - maybe only the fireplace and chimney with the foundation showing. I loved how nature had taken over - huge oak trees, moss everywhere. It was amazing to see what remained.
I was just in Ocean Springs, MS this summer where I saw a number of homes in a similar state from the hurricane. That sight didn't invite any nostalgic feeling - it was sad.

I wonder that quite a bit. Hopefully the new owners will love her. Keep us posted if it changes.

What a beauty this house could be. So pretty. I adore old houses.

I'm new to your blog - just found it yesterday and am still catching up on old posts, but I just wanted you to know how much I'm enjoying it. Love this post, love your sense of style, LOVE your adopted babies (I have two of my own), and your hubby and friends are as cute as can be (as are you!)
As for this post - yes, this is sad. I live in a neighborhood of houses built in the late 30's and early 40's, most of which are kept up pretty well, but some are neglected (mostly by older homeowners who can no longer keep up with everything). I wish I could buy them all - or at the very least make their needed repairs!
