Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I've been sleeping very little and working really hard and it sorta kills the creativity.
Today is "my photographer friend" Marla Carter's birthday. And since I am feeling a total lack of creativity I thought I'd share some of hers... she's amazing... if you have a trip to the beach planned book a session with Marla or Shane, you won't regret it!!
And late last summer she took some pictures of me...
And still to this day no one has correctly guessed what my husband and I made our round garage door windows out of... so if you guess correctly I'll offer a Starbucks gift card, since no one ever won the one that Marla was offering. (those of you who already know are not allowed to guess, I know who you are) Happy guessing!
And more importantly... Happy Birthday Marla!!
Well since I fall into the "not allowed to guess" category, I'll move right along....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARLA!!! You are such a talent and one day when I'm headed to the beach, babies in tow, you'll be the first number I dial! Hope you have a fantastic day and if Houston's weather is anything like your's, you're in for one heck of an afternoon! xx

Are they storage container lids?
Posted by: Jules | January 23, 2009 at 10:47 AM
I think they look like doors to a washing machine(Like a commercial washer)...??
Happy Birthday Marla...I love your photography...My husband and I love your photos..we stalk your blog all the time for the "feel" you give your photos. Awesome...what a gift!
Get some rest, Erika! :)
Is it warming up at the beach yet??? I am dying to get down there...today its supposed to be in the high 50's..but then back to the 30's by Monday. so sad.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, MARLA!
Can't wait to see you both this weekend! And Marla, just in case you didn't already know, do you have any idea how thrilled I am that you are taking pictures of John Martin? Over the moon excited. Seriously!
I know about those windows so I can't guess.... see you both soon!
Posted by: Darby | January 23, 2009 at 11:35 AM
oh gosh...I'd have to guess that he used old car windows. I've read in your blog that he loves to work on cars, so my official guess is "old cars". That's my final answer! LOL
Posted by: heather | January 23, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Isit from a sailboat? I was recently on one and they had some.
Posted by: Jenny | January 23, 2009 at 11:49 AM
Hey Erika,
Chill out - and let the creative juices start flowing!
Those windows look like portholes from a boat or ship!!!
Have a lovely weekend and thanks for being so helpful this week!

I'm going to get wacky and say plastic salad bowls. Love your blog!
Posted by: Mudrick | January 23, 2009 at 12:15 PM
I was going to say port holes too...hmmm...maybe large "chargers" you know like the ones you set your table with...I NEED THAT CARD....still guessing...
Heather ;)
Posted by: Heather | January 23, 2009 at 12:24 PM
The husband says hubcaps...I was going to say portholes, but that's already been guessed...
Posted by: Jenn | January 23, 2009 at 12:33 PM
Sad I fall into the "no allowed to guess too" but I sure love reading what people think they are! Keep thinking... Happy Birthday Marla!!! PS I love all the pictures!
Posted by: Jennie Marie | January 23, 2009 at 12:34 PM
Well I think that you took the fronts off of some washing machines at a laundromat. Someone already said washing machines though so my second guess is that those windows once lived at a big aquarium and people viewed sharks through those things!
Posted by: Keri R. | January 23, 2009 at 12:43 PM
My first thought was the washing machine doors too...whatever they are, the look neat.
Posted by: Laura | January 23, 2009 at 01:08 PM
Windows from an old airplane...I was also going to say port holes but someone took that so I will have to settle with plane windows.
Posted by: Jessica | January 23, 2009 at 01:10 PM
My vote is for the front loader washing machine windows! But, not an original idea since I read everyone else's!
I think I visited Marla's shop and spoke to her husband last year-we always spend Spring Break at our friend's condo at Santa Rosa!

beautiful photography!!
and i am racking my brain to correctly guess what your windows are made out of--and i am not coming up with anything very creative: bicycle rims? [assuming we are talking about the metal part of the windows...]
photo of you is gorgeous too!!
happy friday--hope you can have some R&R this weekend!
Posted by: taylor brown | January 23, 2009 at 01:29 PM
Beautiful pictures! My guess is tire rims, you know the part that you put the rubber tire on. Second Guess is bike tire rims.

beautiful pictures! marla is so talented! my guess::antique bike rims

Thanks for the photographer recommendation. We make our annual trip to Seaside in March and I've always thought of doing this. Their photo's are wonderful. Happy weekend!

I keep coming back to read all the incoming comments and this is so much fun! You should have a guessing game every week!!!
Posted by: Courtney | January 23, 2009 at 01:52 PM
Happy Birthday Marla! What beautiful images. Lucky you to be friends with her.
I hope you get some rest this weekend. Can't wait to see what projects you are so busy working on. Hopefully you'll be letting us in on them.
I have no clue what the windows are. I was going to say port holes, but it seems way to obvious. Can't wait to find out what they are.

i'm guessing plastic plate chargers or a plastic round tray...sorry if they are glass and i'm guessing plastic! although, they could be a super sturdy, industrial glass plate
Posted by: the rauths | January 23, 2009 at 02:30 PM
They look like wheels to a car, or rims? I'm not into auto stuff, but they look about the size of them.
Love your blog!
Posted by: Kirbey Broome | January 23, 2009 at 02:51 PM
Definitely hubcaps. I'm thinking grande soy latte hubcaps...
Posted by: Amy | January 23, 2009 at 02:55 PM
I think they are glass or plastic serving trays with deep rims... possibly inset back to back... I hope I am right! I love to drink Starbucks' cafe mochas! : )
I really enjoy your blog. I worked in interior design (residential) for almost ten years and loved it. I get to live vicariously through you now that I have three kids at home! You do excellent work! Bravo!

This sleep-deprived mama needs that Starbucks card . . . . I'm guessing auto parts? I'm hooked on your blog . . . Used to be an interior designer, now I'm a happy stay-at-homer. Come on White Chocolate Mochas!!

I thought Washing Machine front loader doors also! Love the photos! So sweet.
Posted by: katiedid | January 23, 2009 at 04:34 PM
They look like the little plexi glass windows that you see on children's jungle gyms or slides at ChuckE Cheese, McDonalds, etc.
And Happy Birthday Marla! Today is also my birthday.

As much as I wanted to use everyone else's ideas--- especially airplane or car windows-- could they be metal trim from those 1950s chair hairdryers? ...tried to think of something plumbing-related since u love so much.
Posted by: Jessica | January 23, 2009 at 05:52 PM
Plexiglas?
Posted by: Wendy | January 23, 2009 at 06:18 PM
I think they are the tops of the old hair dryers that you sit under at the beauty shop.
Posted by: Gwen | January 23, 2009 at 07:06 PM
umm. maybe sky light bubbles such as solar tubes??
Posted by: babaloo | January 23, 2009 at 08:10 PM
I absolutely love the joy, passion and simplicity that shows through your blog! I found a cozy spot for your site on My Inspiration Lounge under Home & Garden :) I also included Marla's site under the Photobug section. You two are both inspirations!

I've thought about your windows a lot today. I going to make a second guess: a big pipe/tube for insulation or drainage, etc. cut thin with Plexiglas inset.

my guess - the plastic drum tops that drummers practice with when they can't lug their whole drum set with them. The photography was great.
Posted by: My Notting Hill | January 24, 2009 at 08:46 AM
I was going to say drum fronts... but someone beat me to it.
Posted by: Kristin | January 24, 2009 at 09:46 AM
Oh...I've got it...they're from the "viewing" windows in swinging doors...like in the hospital scene in Superman...was just watching that movie and went "oh - that's it!" Can't wait for the reveal!
Posted by: Jenn | January 24, 2009 at 01:05 PM
Oh wait...I've got it...they're the "viewing windows" in swinging doors...like in the hospital scene in Super Man...was just watching and was like, "oh, that's them!" Can't wait for the reveal!
Posted by: Jenn | January 24, 2009 at 01:07 PM
having trouble posting a comment...sorry if you get the same comment three times...so I think I've got it - they're the "viewing" windows in swinging doors...like in the hospital scene in Superman...can't wait for the reveal!

I am guessing salvaged portholes.......I think they look great whatever they are though!!
Love the photography....your friend has a great eye!
Posted by: Mimilee | January 24, 2009 at 03:27 PM
I'm guessing plastic mirrors...or really shined metal bowl/trays???
Posted by: Linda@Lime in the Coconut | January 24, 2009 at 03:36 PM
I think they are from sun tunnels - those skylight tube thingies.
Posted by: Erin | January 24, 2009 at 05:21 PM
PVC Pipe and plexiglass?
Posted by: Jodie P | January 24, 2009 at 07:49 PM

She is very talented. I took a minute and browsed thru her portfolio. Wish she were closer to me!
Posted by: no.35style | January 25, 2009 at 02:24 PM
Hmmm.... I think it looks like the rim of a bike tire as well. I'm really curious to find out what it really is! Something quite unique, I'm sure. :)

Are they quilting/ embroidery rings?
