I have spent the last few days with my family (mainly my mom, aunt, cousin, sister and sister's kids), away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
A wonderful reminder that yes, there is life outside of tile and draperies.
I laughed a lot. And hugged and kissed my little nieces and nephew. I cut and pasted (not on a computer) and colored with crayons. I shopped and sat by a pool. I ate pop ice popsicles and drank pink lemonade. And swam laps and raced and tread water in the deep-end, and made up water aerobic moves and laughed a lot doing all of it. And watched wondermom (that would be my sister (below)) in action.
John Martin got a little confused, often mistaking me for his own momma (he obviously didn't notice my belly). And when he realized I wasn't his mom, he decided he didn't like me that much after all. So he spent more time with Cousin than with me.
I slept on an air mattress with my Cousin, which took me back to childhood days when we would have sleep-overs at her house and laugh til shesomeone peed in their pants. We'd flip the sleeper sofa up in the air and crawl under the sofa to hide. Someone in furniture design must have caught onto that design flaw, sleeper sofas don't do that anymore do they? Anyway, that beloved Cousin informed me right before bed on Saturday night that she thinks I might be the only person nearing 30 who still wears a retainer (orthodontic retainer, in case you aren't familiar... it's that plastic and metal thing you sleep in that keeps your teeth in line). Ahh, she might have been poking fun, but she didn't know I take pride in my retainer-wearing. I replied with a "thank you" not even laced with an ounce of sarcasm. Here's a funny story about my retainers and the time they went missing. Cousin, I wish you lived closer... Chicago is nice, but as Morgan rightfully informed you "it's warmer down here than it is in Illinois".
Darby and her girls made Fudge Pie. The lettuce in the foreground (left) is not an ingredient.
We watched a Sesame Dance Along video from the late 80s. We had a good laugh. If you want to enjoy it too - click on this link.
Chance took this picture below... little fuzzy, but all I have of us and Cousin together.
Mother of the year.
The other Mother of the year.
John Martin was baptized on Sunday morning. Is this really the best photo I could get of their family?
Darby loaded us up with ALL of Morgan and Paige's old clothes, you have never seen so many precious clothes in all your life! My heart was full of joy, delight and gratitude as I loaded those tiny little clothes into a giant rubbermaid box (most of which Darby made herself). Thank you Sister!
She also gave us her car seat carrier. It's a Terrier Carrier too. Paisley is gonna be in for a rude awakening come September, she might need therapy.
We had a wonderful time and on our way home we stopped and had dinner at my brother and sister-in-laws... another delightful time before closing up my little mini-vacay.
I'm truly blessed to have wonderful in-laws. You already know I love Leah, I was the match-maker who matched her with my (then) single brother-in-law. I lucked out as much as Bayn did. She's as sweet as she is cute. We had BBQ and all the fixins til we couldn't eat anymore!
See that bump? Oh yes. And that dress is long, but I was hot. And the Crocs? Heaven help me. I broke my own rule. I swore I'd NEVER. Well, my back is already hurting so I buckled. I bought two pairs, I hope they aren't dorky? They were the most stylish I could find, like a little ballet flat. In silver. Does that help my case? I didn't wear them to church, I promise. I wore cute heels, but a girl can only take so much.
My other brother-in-law Brant drove down from Nashville with our nephew Ben. While I was having fun with my sister and family, they were all at my house having fun with Uncle Chance. Brant, thanks for coming and for bringing Ben! Let Michelle know he asked me "how is that baby gonna get out of your belly?" so she can explain!
And those in-laws I speak of... (below) my mother and father-in-law and my brother-in-law Bayn, they are wonderful people. My mother-in-law is retiring this year... perfect timing, she's already agreed to move in with us and get up all through the night with the new baby! Thanks Beba!
Holy never-ending-blog-post. I have something else to tell you, I feel like I've been keeping a secret. We got sod a couple of weeks ago. I am in LOVE.
The 12 Oak Leaf Hydrangeas are on the list (to be planted)... maybe that'll happen this weekend?
Alright, that's all folks, thanks for reading.
